Capital Area Manufacturing Council (CAMC)


Endorsement of the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC), the WorkKeys System and the Manufacturing Skills Training Employment Program (M-STEP)

Whereas, the Capital Area Manufacturing Council was formed to ensure manufacturing executives understand and act upon issues common to the manufacturing community; and

Whereas, workforce development is a common concern throughout the manufacturing community; and

Whereas, there are significant workforce development resources available to manufacturers in the capital area region to assist with training, recruitment, and retention,  and among these are:  

  • The Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) at Lansing Community College, a state-of-the-art training facility designed to address the training needs of the business community; 

  • The WorkKeys System, an EEO-compliant and ADA-responsive recruitment and retention tool providing the means to scientifically identify job requirements and determine worker skills and training needs; and 

  • The Manufacturing Skills Training Employment Program (M-STEP), a pre-employment curriculum designed to prepare new hires for work in manufacturing and covering entry-level skills on communication, problem-solving, quality measurement, safety, lean manufacturing and teamwork.  

Therefore, the Capital Area Manufacturing Council endorses these workforce development resources for consideration by all manufacturers in addressing their workforce development needs.
